Sonoma State University offers a Finance, Investment and Investment Law seminar, focusing on the state’s legal cannabis industry

Some of the cannabis industry’s leading venture capital and financial professionals will address the one-day workshop, while examining the issues that can make or break the state’s new recreational cannabis market.

Rohnert Park, California (August 29, 2017) – California is now just several months away from full recreational cannabis legalization and the creation of the nation’s largest legal marijuana market.

Cannabis sales in California are already projected to reach $7 billion annually. At the same time, state regulators are scrambling to create the framework for what is intended to become a highly-regulated industry.

As part of its ongoing Cannabis in California seminar series, Sonoma State University (SSU) is offering an opportunity to learn more about the financial, legal and investing challenges and opportunities of this rapidly-growing but still developing sector.

The Finance, Investment and Investment Law seminar will take place at SOMO Village, Rohnert Park, on Friday, October 6, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Workshop attendees will hear from some of the cannabis industry’s leading venture capital and financial professionals; who will share their professional experiences in the biotech, medical, retail and technological aspects of the legal cannabis sector. Seminar speakers include:

  • Aaron SilvermanPresident and CEO of Canna Group, Inc.
  • Emily Paxhia, Managing Director, Poseidon Asset Management, LLC.
  • Regina UnegovskySenior Attorney, Regal Tax and Law Group, PC.
  • Sherri Haskell, Founder and CEO of Canna Angels, LLC.
  • Carrie Tice, CEO, Co-Founder Octavia Wellness, Cannabis Solutions for Seniors
  • Marsha Bluto, M.D., Medical Director, CSSR, Inc.

“The October 6 seminar is meant to help guide the cannabis industry in the North Bay toward financial solutions,” says Robert Eyler, Ph.D., Dean of SSU’s School of Extended and International Education. “What Sonoma State University is doing with its courses on the cannabis industry is helping solve problems.”

Program Director Jason Snyder says this latest workshop is the result of positive feedback from SSU’s inaugural Cannabis in California event earlier this year.

“There’s a growing demand for more university-produced content that targets professional-level issues in the cannabis industry,” he says, “as well as a desire for advice and information from professionals who have a demonstrated success in the cannabis industry, and who can share their experiences.”
