Seven Factors That Affect Your Cannabis High

Ask a dozen smokers what their favorite strain is, and you may receive a dozen different answers. Some prefer their high to be mellow, others like it buzzy, some want to feel it in their body, and others yet, in their head. There are a lot of factors that go into personal preferences when it comes to enjoying cannabis, but there are also many factors outside of simple likes that can affect your high.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Environment plays a crucial role in the effect of your cannabis high
  • Delivery method: Edibles vs smoking. Your body processes cannabis from each method differently
The duration of a high with edibles can be much longer, and the effects are stronger
  • Dosing may in fact be the most important factor to take into account when considering what will affect your high
  • The cannabinoid profile (THC/CBD ratio) of a strain determines how a high will affect you
  • Age plays a surprising role in whether you’ll enjoy a cannabis high or not. The older you are, the less likely you’ll enjoy the effects.

*Editor’s Note:
I was surprised this article makes no mention of the two strains of cannabis- Indica and Sativa and their different effects. As I’ve learned from chatting with regular users, many people aren’t even aware of these different strains and the type of high each strain elicits. I personally cannot tolerate Sativa, as it causes anxiety for me. Indica, on the other hand, is mellow and relaxing. If you find ingesting cannabis makes you paranoid, you’re likely consuming Sativa.
