Cannabis: While the US Waits, the World Opens Up
Cannabis legalization is spreading its roots globally. Uruguay was the first country to fully legalize recreational cannabis in 2013. Canada became the second country to legalize marijuana in 2018. Many other countries have followed suit. However, the legality of medical and recreational cannabis varies for different countries. The US still hasn’t made a decision about cannabis legalization.

- Canada on track to lead in the cannabis industry which is on track for the legalization of cannabis-infused edibles for recreational use next month.
- Mexico decriminalized the possession of a small amount of marijuana in 2009, but it hasn’t fully legalized it. The country legalized medicinal marijuana with a THC content of less than 1% in 2017.
- A team of “marijuana experts” predicts that Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, Thailand, the US, Australia, New Zealand, and Chile will legalize marijuana soon.
