185 apply for Ohio medical marijuana cultivator licenses

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio has received 185 applications to grow marijuana in the state’s fledgling medical marijuana program.

The Department of Commerce on Wednesday released a list of businesses that applied. But the list doesn’t include names of the principals or investors backing each proposal or locations where the applicants want to grow. The department has declined to release further application information at this time.

The state deadline to apply for 24 grow licenses was Friday, more than a year after Gov. John Kasich signed Ohio’s medical marijuana law. Other businesses are preparing to apply for dispensary and processor licenses in a few months.
